UA-78503712-1 Small Groups at CUMC

…an inclusive community
responding to God’s love…

Our church offers a variety of small groups for adults. Each provides an opportunity for fellowship, prayer, and spiritual growth through study or discussion. Small groups are the best way to get to know other members of the congregation, strengthening our faith community as we support and nurture each other. All are welcome!

Here is a brief description of the small groups that meet at Claremont UMC. For more information, contact the person listed for each group, Rev. Martha Morales or Paula Hui, chair of Adul Minisries Committee

Several adult groups meet on a continuing basis, weekly or monthly.

Growing Christians

meets for one hour on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. in Room 11. It is both a study group and community whose members support one another. Growing Christians typically selects a study theme for 4 to 8 weeks and will read and discuss based on the theme. Volunteers rotate to facilitate and lead its gatherings. The group’s learning and support of one another allows members to focus on living out Jesus' call to bring forth love of the stranger, social justice and strengthen our relationship with God. Members of Growing Christians say, “Try us out!” Contact: Alex Morales

meets at 10:45-ish on Sunday mornings in the Round Building Rec Room. For two decades Boosters have been exploring Danish and caffeine. In addition to currant [pun!] topics, discussions of timely and contemporary events regularly occur regarding family, parental support, our church, community and the world. Frequently, conversations carry us onto unchartered paths. Join us for the journey of fellowship and snacks on Sunday mornings.

The Serenity Small Group

Members of the Serenity Group find comfort in the familiar Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” If you face situations that this prayer may help, you are invited to attend. Serenity meets on Sundays, usually monthly, at the home of one of its members.

Other small groups meet regularly for a specified period of time. Sometimes these groups focus on a church season, such as Advent or Lent, or a topic, such as prayer. Other short term groups emphasize fellowship … and the traditional Methodist potluck.
